Calling all fabric lovers

KRAVET CANADA's Brenda Bradley stopped by today to show us their new fabric introductions for Spring. So we are dreaming up new window coverings, reupholstered chairs and toss pillows with these fresh patterns for you.  Scroll down to see what's inspiring us today.

This fabric  by Barclay Butera with soft shades of blue anchored with dark brown is a perfect mate with a brown leather sofa. It's a marrgiage of soft and feminine with masculine.

Are you after some colour? Add a dash of cheerfulness with this fabric for a roman shade or bench cushion.

Blues, yellows and grey tones are all covered in this watercolour pattern by Kelly Wearstler.
Peggy's is contemplating on using this fabric on her kitchen/dining room windows.

For the horseback rider. Although you can't see it on the photo, this fabric comes in three other colourways, one version with orange pops of colours. But the red is classic, isn't it.

This fabric had us oooing and aahing, even though none of us are horseback riders or members of the royal family.

This beautifully detailed fabric would make a perfect toss pillow or roman shade with the pattern running down the middle.

A classic pattern scaled to greatness, perfect for tall windows. Beautifully coloured with soft hues and grey undertones, we simply love it!

This take on the tree of life pattern with lovely yellows, greens and greys was love at first sight.

Barclay Butera has come out with a new fabric collection, we were quite taken with the new direction he has taken.

Another fabric that got oohs and aahs. Dramatic scale of leaves and flowers with intricate emroidery details had us dreaming of future projects.

Another dramatically scaled pattern, this paisley in soft blues and greys over sheer linen would make exquisite master bedroom drapes.

We always like a trellis pattern. What's there not to like, it effortlessly mixes with any other pattern.

Sarah Richardson's collection is brilliantly designed to intermix with one another. Most patterns in Sarah's collection are available in four colourways of coral, sterling, ocean and celedon. The below photos are all from Sarah's fabrics by Kravet.

Are you inspired yet? It's time to breathe some spring into our homes, isn't it?  Let us know how we can help you update your home for Spring with new drapery, romans, toss pillows, reupholstery or custom bedding. THE SPRING FABRIC SALE is starting soon, on March 18th.

Spring is almost here!

With the hope of spring arriving shortly, most of us are starting to come out of our winter hibernation mode and are thinking of ways to freshen up our homes. Spring is the season of renewal, and it's only fitting that we want to inject the same feel into our living quarters.

As fun and energizing as redecorating may be, it can feel overwhelming as well. Where does one start the renewal process? Some rooms can get away with a small tweak, new drapery, new toss pillows, a chair or two to be reupholstered or a new area rug can do the trick. Some spaces need more than just a tweak, where perhaps new furniture needs to be introduced, walls need to be painted, and a whole new look is timely.

Our staff is ready to help you with your spring redecorating projects. Whether it's a small tweak or a complete makeover, we are here to help you find the right solutions.

Our consultation fee is $300/room, which is the wisest investement anyone can make, as hiring a decorator takes away the possibility of costly mistakes. Our decorating process starts with a discussion of your wish list, followed by a site visit, which enables us to visualize your space. During the in-home visit, we discuss ideas with you and take measurements of the room and the furniture you are keeping. Back at our store, we select fabrics, furniture, lighting, area rugs, paint colours and also draw up floor plans tailored to your space. Once the Decorating Plan is complete, we arrange for an in-store presentation and guide you through the furniture and fabric selection process. Upon approval of the Decorating Plan, your order will get processed and you are on your way to a room you will love!

Harden furniture is in the White House

TPresident Barack Obama meets with staff in the Roosevelt Room of the White House , where a 16-foot black cherry conference table is the centerpiece. The table was made to order by Harden Furniture in McConnellsville. Pictured at the table are (from left): National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling; Bruce Reed, chief of staff to the vice president; Phil Schiliro, assistant to the president and special adviser; and Nancy-Ann DeParle, deputy chief of staff for policy.
The residents were specific — they needed a table long enough to seat more than a dozen budget negotiators, elegant enough for heads of state to put their elbows on, and narrow enough to fit through the small doorways of a 220-year-old building.Oh, and can you make it in pieces so we can easily move it?
Harden Furniture came up with just such a piece for the residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C.
The 16-foot-long black cherry conference table designed for the Roosevelt Room is the latest piece the McConnellsville furniture maker has crafted for the White House, said owner Greg Harden.
“It was a great project,” he said.
Harden Furniture beat out other bidders to create the table, which has specially designed feet to meet the narrowness of the room and comes in pieces that can be easily moved out of the room when it’s needed for reception space, Harden said.
The table was installed in the Roosevelt Room in February 2011.
The Roosevelt Room was built in 1902 as President Theodore Roosevelt’s office during his expansion of the White House. The windowless space became a part of two waiting rooms when the Oval Office was built.
President Franklin Roosevelt relocated the Oval Office when he was president, and he used the space to display an aquarium and fishing mementos. FDR called it the Fish Room.
President Richard Nixon renamed the room the Roosevelt Room to honor both presidents. It is now used as a conference room and features a multimedia center for presentations, according to the White House website.
If you go to the White House or Capitol, you’re likely to recognize a lot of Harden. The first lady’s office furniture and many executive desks in the Executive Office Building are Harden pieces. Harden also made 1,000 chairs for the Capitol Visitor Center, which opened in 2008, and the chairs in the caucus rooms in the House and Senate, Harden said.

Liz's Cause-Tepehua Community Center would love your help

Peggy's good friend Liz Fowler and her husband Ted spend their winters in Mexico. Lucky them!

But Liz Fowler is more than just a fortunate vacationer, Liz and other community members spend their free time helping out  in one of Mexico's most impoverished communities: Tepehua in Chapala.

As Peggy shared her decision of visiting Liz (Febr 12. 2014), our minds started racing with ideas of how we can help Liz's Cause. Here is Liz's letter back to us explaining what the community's needs are. We hope you will join us in helping Liz's Cause, as together we can make a big difference. So we invite you to sit down for a minute, open your heart, read and ponder:

"Dear Peggy and the team at Rousseau's,
I am so excited at the prospect of what could come of the idea of collecting donations via Rousseau's. Many thanks for opening your hearts to this community!
I have many ideas floating through my head, so here goes......the dental clinic relies totally on donations to operate and the need for dental care is unbelievable.   All the dentists are local Mexican dentists who faithfully donate their services every week etc.
The equipment we use is outdated but gratefully received through donations.  If we had a monetary fund....then Wanda, the American volunteer dental hygienist who started the clinic, could actually buy new equipment and dental supplies for fillings etc.   For example, right now the instrument sterilizer (which was donated....an oldie but goodie) is broken and we don't have the funds to repair it or purchase a new one.    Miraculously, they make it work but it could be so much easier and better if we had a ready supply of the "right" stuff on hand.

So Peggy, what if we invited people to make a cash donation.....i.e., a loonie (to represent Canada) and a toothbrush.  That way, we would have our always needed toothbrushes ( children and adult brushes, soft variety) and we could have a ready fund to buy the right supplies as needed.  Our dollars go a long way here in Mexico pesos.  So it's not like we're having to raise a huge amount of money.....but it would be so helpful.

On another front, our next big endeavour is to start an education program for the mothers and their children.....oral hygiene and nutrition.   I'm working on this project with Wanda and my friend, Shirley.  It's proving to be quite challenging as many of the women are illiterate and our Spanish is limited. There is so much equipment/materials we need to get this project underway....to give you an idea of how basic our needs are....we want to put up up a bulletin board so we can post information, pictures etc.  We are scrounging to find cork to make the actual bulletin board.  If we had the resources to purchase visual aids and materials for hands on teaching activities, it would be amazing. We would be in heaven if we could buy 2 or 3 ipads with wifi, because there are so many free interactive dental education activities in Spanish on the Internet.  The kids and Moms could learn so much, so easily with that kind of technology at our disposal.  So there's another way we could put our loonies to work.
This is so exciting! We could help so many people ! Love,Liz"

We hope Liz's letter has inspired you to help.
Please join us and donate what you can, be it toothbrushes,
I-pads or Canadian Currency. Peggy will personally deliver all the donations to the village during her trip. We will send you updates of her visit and of the impact on the community.

Donations can be dropped off at our store (before Febr 12)
